In high-speed air turbines, typically yes — commonly 2–3× longer under identical operating conditions. Lighter, harder rolling elements generate less heat and wear. The gap narrows in low-speed or economy applications, where steel bearings are often still the more cost-effective choice.
2. Why are ceramic bearings more expensive?
Two reasons. Silicon nitride powder and the pressing/sintering process cost more than bearing steel, and the finishing is more demanding. You are paying for the precision, not just the material.
