What is anti-retraction dental handpiece?

The use of the anti-suckback dental handpiece has been shown to significantly reduce the amount of internal bacteria sucked back into the dental handpiece compared to conventional dental handpieces. However, the anti-suckback dental handpiece does not prevent all bacteria from entering the interior of the handpiece, and it is not a substitute for cleaning bacteria in the dental handpiece. On the one hand, due to the complex structure of the dental handpiece, even with the use of anti-suction devices, contamination caused by liquid entering the front crevice of the dental handpiece is still inevitable; it has also been studied and confirmed that the failure rate of the anti-suction valve can be as high as 74%. On the other hand, the outer surface of the handpiece will also be in direct contact with the patient’s blood and saliva, which is a highly dangerous item.
Therefore, regardless of the type of dental handpiece, whether or not there is an anti-suckback device, the dental handpiece should be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized after use in accordance with the operating instructions.
