5 moments for hand hygiene in dental clinics
This article introduces 5 moments to teach you hand hygiene in dental clinics.
Moment 1: Before contacting the patient
- After entering the contaminated area (diagnosis and treatment area), before touching the patient on the dental chair, include the following actions: shaking hands, assisting the patient to lie down on the dental chair, putting a bib on the patient, and passing water to the patient;
- Contact with any dental equipment related to the patient;
- Position the patient before X-rays.

Moment 2: Before the dental operation
- Put a dental instrument into the mouth, it may penetrate tissues or cavities;
- Before any contact with incomplete mucosa or incomplete skin: any dental operation, including invasive examination, removal, reduction and other dental operations;
- Before dispensing and preparing medicines during oral operation: such as fluoride, local anesthesia, general anesthesia, tooth protector, etc.
Moment 3: After the dental operation

- After exposure to blood and body fluids-after using any dental device;
- After direct or indirect contact with saliva, whether through a cup or tissue;

- Clean dentures;
- Wash any secretions from the patient;

Moment 4: After contacting the patient
After touching the patient, prepare to leave the contaminated area and go to a clean area. Wash your hands once in between;
Moment 5: After contact with objects in the surrounding environment of the patient
After touching the surrounding environment of the patient (without touching the patient), you will go from the contaminated area to the clean area, washing your hands once in between.
