Possible problems, causes and solutions when taking dental impression of silicone rubber

1. Delamination occurs after taking dental impressions

Possible cause

The initial impression is contaminated with saliva or blood.

Solution

Clean and dry the initial impression.

2. Angular defect after taking dental impressions

Possible cause

Pallet in place too fast.

Solution

Slow positioning of pallets.

3. Position error (correct the dental impression technology)

Possible cause

The initial impression is not placed in the original position when it is re-positioned.

Solution

Make sure the initial impression is placed in the correct position (can be marked on the impression in advance).

4. Secondary impression curing in advance (double mixing technology)

Possible cause

The high temperature in the oral cavity causes the secondary impressions placed in advance to start curing before the tray is placed in the oral cavity.

Solution

Make sure that the secondary impressions placed in the mouth have not cured before the tray is placed in the mouth.

5. Curing delay (hand-adjusted initial impression)

Possible cause

Latex gloves contain sulfur compounds that can affect the platinum catalyst and thus the cure.

Solution

Use polyethylene or plastic gloves or wash hands and mix.

6. The secondary impression is too thick

Possible cause

Insufficient correction of the initial impression.

Solution

Extensive correction of the initial impression.
